"Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. Live in the faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you."

FINALLY SOMETHING ABOUT BRAZIL’S SITUATION ON MY DASHBOARD
WE’RE LIVING A REVOLUTION! WE’VE BEEN IN AN ALMOST CIVIL WAR STATE FOR TWO WEEKS! WHAT THE HELL, FOREIGNERS? TALK ABOUT US!
Why isn’t this shit on the new in America tho. Like the fuck I didn’t even know this shit was going on. But what’s the whole protest and marching about anyway? Details people
They’re marching about how new laws are giving politicians even more power than before to take money away from their people. They’re marching because of the money going towards the stadiums for the World Cup and Olympics while their education and health systems suffer. They wants change, and goddamn it’s about time they get it.
That stadium is also being built on indigenous people’s land, where they were housed and everything and the Brazilian government forcibly removed said indigenous peoples and bulldozed everything.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
"Unaware/unintentional racism drives usually tranquil white liberals wild when they get called on it, and confirms the suspicions of many people of color who feel that white folks are just plain crazy. It has led white people to believe that it’s just fine to ask if they can touch my hair (while reaching). They then exclaim over how soft it is, how it does not scratch their hand. It has led whites to assume that bending over backwards and speaking to me in high-pitched (terrified), condescending tones would make up for all the racist wrongs that distort our lives. This type of racism has led whites right to my doorstep, talking ‘bout, “We’re sorry/we love you and want to make things right,” which is fine, and further, “We’re gonna give you the opportunity to fix it while we sleep. Just tell us what you need. ‘Bye!” - which ain’t fine. With the best of intentions, the best of educations, and the greatest generosity of heart, whites, operating on the misinformation fed to them from day one, will behave in ways that are racist, will perpetuate racism by being “nice” the way we’re taught to be nice. You can just “nice” somebody to death with naivete and lack of awareness of privilege. Then there’s guilt and the desire to end racism and how the two get all tangled up to the point that people, morbidly fascinated with their guilt, are immobilized. Rather than deal with ending racism, they sit and ponder their guilt and hope nobody notices how awful they are. Meanwhile, racism picks up momentum and keeps on keepin’ on."

"Not every white person is a racist, but the genius of racism is that you don’t have to participate to enjoy the spoils. If you’re white, you can be completely oblivious, passively accepting the status quo, and reap the rewards."

A very good definition of privilege.
The thing about privilege, for anyone who has it, is that they can live their entire lives completely unaware of it, which is something people without privilege can’t do.
Unfortunately, one of the definitions of privilege is that there’s really not a lot you can do about it. You’re born white, or male, and that’s just the way things went for you. And so, in the same way that there’s not much logic in being proud of being a man, or proud of being white, there is not much sense in being ashamed of being a man, or ashamed of being white.
It’s always good to be aware of your situation, and how it relates to the situations of others, but when you are being attacked for things that are outside your control, when you are being attacked for your biological sex, or your race, you know, fuck that.
TL;DR It seems obvious to me that privilege exists. Weaponizing it will help no one.
